Yes, this is very close to what I think is the real driving force behind the production decisions concerning Lost. What was once one of the best shows on TV has become the epitome of everything that is wrong in "Hollywood".
Im having trouble imagining what sort of ending they have planned that is going live up to the expectations of a five year wait.
If you happen to be a reader of Entertainment Weekly, then you'll have been treated to the slobbering love fest that exists between Stephen King and the creators of Lost over the past two years or so. Its not surprising to me really that JJ Abrams is adapting the Dark Tower series. One writer/producer who cant end a story working with an author who cant end a story.

Can't view youtube from work, so I'll just add generic comments.
Not sure I understand all the LOST hate these days. I've really enjoyed season 3 so far, and I think it has given us one of the best episodes - the Hurley centric one where Cheech plays his dad. It was an excellent light-herated episode, but gave us good insight into a lot of the characters. It also humanized the Dharma Initiative a bit - with Roger the Work Man on a beer run.
My only negative comment about the show so far is that it opens many new mysteries almost continuously, but rarely resolves any older ones. There are a lot of questions still open from season 1 that haven't really been answered properly. We still really don't know much about the hatch, or the supposed "sickness," or why the others abducted Claire, or how Kelvin came to be in the hatch, etc.
And I still don't buy the airplane crash. Either the writers chose a very hokey way to do it, or there is something else they haven't told us yet.
We are, however, staring to get some insight on the Others. I like how the Dharma people referred to them as "Hostiles," and it also appears the Others were on the island much prior to Dharma. But what happend to Dharma? Why are some pieces of their operation still working (I'm thinking food drops here)?
But these are not questions that can be answered right now, or it will probably spoil the story. However, I do think it would be good of the writers to throw us a couple of bones - with some meat on them. They've thrown us a few in the past, but they've never been meaty.
Take a look at it at home if you get a chance. Its hysterical.
I also thought the Hurley episode was excellent, but it was really the only one that excited me so far this season.
With the death of Eco, I was really left wondering what the point was behind spending so much time on the stories of the "Tailies". I felt that everything centering around all of those characters was nothing but filler. What does any of Ana Lucia's backstory mean to Jack's continuing journey? Nothing.
Im just getting a little bored to be honest. I think they went with the "five year arc" cover-story to placate fans who felt that the writers didnt know where the show was going in the beginning, and now theyre stuck with it. Now we have two NEW losties who are supposed to be important but yet havent been discussed at all in 3.5 seasons.
Im also very nervous about the show's resolution. I've been down this road with JJ Abrams before as a fan of Alias. That went from one of the best shows on television to garbage that wasnt written as well as any given episode of "Guiding Light".
The "mystery" angle isnt enough to keep me interested. Just thinking about having to wait another two years for the story to resolve itself makes me a little angry.
Ive had a feeling from the begining that either the Island is some sort of virtual reality or that the castaway's memories are false or both.
Plus, Im into "Rome" now and everything else looks pale in comparison!
Good points about the tailies - I guess they are all dead except for Bernard and the stewardess-chick that we saw outside Jack's cage breifly. Oh, and the abducted kids.
But why kill Echo, Libby, and Anna Lucia? Doesn't look like they serve any direct purpose, but Echo did have influence on a lot of others while he was around. Same can be said for Ana and Libby. Not sure it really justifies 1 season's worth of diversions, but we won't know until the end.
Pretty good episode last night. I think the problem I have with Lost is that I feel we should have been at this point towards the beginning of this season if not the end of last season. Ill take what I can get though, last night was entertaining.
The next episode should be particularly telling. I believe its a Nikki/Paolo episode.
If its true that they have taken the place of Rose and Bernard in an alternate timeline, then things are very interesting indeed, but that will likely invalidate my virtual reality theory.
We shall see!
